October 6, 2004, was a special day in the life of 1736
Family Crisis Center as Executive Director Carol A. Adelkoff
accepted U.S. Senator Barbara
Boxer's Health Care
Champion Award.
Boxer Field Representative Hattie Stewart presented the tribute at
our It takes a community awards celebration, convened at our
community service center in Redondo Beach. Senator Boxer created her award
to recognize individuals, companies, and organizations for exceptional
work in providing healthcare to Californians.
"By providing shelter, mental health services, and other assistance,"
Senator Boxer was quoted in a press release posted on her official website
the day following the award presentation, "the Center has made a great
contribution to the health and safety of distressed children, teens, and
adults throughout South Los Angeles and the Greater South Bay area."
California Assemblymember George Nakano was also on hand to
lend his congratulations, and to present Executive Director Adelkoff with
a Certificate of Recognition. This honored 1736 Family Crisis Center's
"exceptional leadership and dedication to improving the quality of life
for those in need and for providing services and shelter in the South
Bay.
"Helping Hands" Awards Laud Local Heroes
The October event also provided the opportunity to present
1736 Family Crisis Center's first "Helping Hands" Awards. These awards were
developed to honor key individuals and
groups in the South Bay that have lent noteworthy volunteer, in-kind, or
financial support to sustain and enhance 1736 Family Crisis Center's shelter, outpatient,
and community outreach-education programs.
Helping Hands awardees included the Peninsula Chapter of National
Charity League, Inc., the Employees Charity Organization (ECHO) of
Northrop Grumman Corporation, Helen Ristani, Sandpipers,
Barbara Smith, Soroptimist International of Los Angeles, and
Toyota Financial Services.
Recognition of the efforts of those honored with Helping
Hands awards emphasizes the essential contributions of time
and other resources that people across the community can offer to foster the
safety and long-term prospects of domestic violence victims and their children,
runaway teens, and others in need.
Thank you, everyone!
